Ok, this isn't really a doggy, more of a DOG! Does a dog getting a street sign diminish the value for others?

Michael Street, Easy Street and Paradise Road Signs Dissappear

Is it surprising that everyone wants these signs for their rec room or dorm room? Name streets to honor someone most people have never heard of and they're unlikely to disappear. Though I would be sad if interesting street names were a thing of the past. I know that in Cambridge, Mass they no longer replace the signs at the intersection of Bow and Arrow Streets.

When Hip Hop and Road Sign New Collide

I only mention this article to say that I never see any controversy about street sign renamings for people like Kurtis Blow. Why only MLK? "The unveiling of a Kurtis Blow street sign was also to take place at the Grand Concourse Bronx Supreme Court Building (161st Street & the Grand Concourse)."

I'm pretty sure I could devote an entire page to street renamining controversies and I'm not so sure I couldn't devote a page to controversy about renaming a street in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Since I don't have kids I never think about whether there are actually kids in the school. I just assume there are kids there for summer school.

Martin Luther King Street Contentious, Again

Its the same issue on a different street in a different city. The city wants to rename a street after the civil rights leader who is honored each year. Naming a street after Martin Luther King, Jr. is not only a way to honor him but a way to say that we are all brothers and can live in peace. The truth is that it rarely is perceived as anything more than a race issue. I don't know if it really is or not, but I know that the papers always report it that way and the opponents seem to be white and the supporters black.

Stolen Street Signs

I can usually see why people would steal a street sign (not condone it, just comprehend their motive) and the same is true for one of the signs in this article. I'm sure that I guy named Robert would love to have a street sign from Roberts Road. The article seems to indicate that the sign for FM 2550 is also stolen yearly. Why? Is that really a source of pride? Is it interesting? Does it have some hidden meaning I don't understand?

Sometimes we have to do something simple to show that we've changed in complex ways. The story of Emmitt Till is one that can still raise goose bumps. I hope we've really changed. I hope.
